About First Year Experience

The First Year Experience (FYE) is designed to help you succeed in your first year of college by providing opportunities to experience campus events and student groups, encouraging educational and career planning, introducing mindfulness and growth mindset strategies, and connecting you with valuable on-campus resources. As you navigate your first year, we are here to guide you every step of the way!

How do I join?

All students are automatically part of the First Year Experience, so feel free to join our on-campus events anytime! The best way to get information and get involved is through our Canvas Page. FYE is targeted towards students in their first two semesters at Fullerton College, but all are welcome to participate!

Four Key Areas of FYE

First Year Experience introduces you to the four key areas of student success at Fullerton College: Community & Cultural Connections, Career and Educational Exploration, Support Services, and Mindful Growth.

Community & Cultural Connections badge

COMMUNITY & CULTURAL CONNECTIONS

Being part of a community is an important part of being a successful college student. Joining clubs, attending athletics events, and participating in orientation are some of the great ways you can become a stronger part of the FC Hornets Community. Earning this badge signifies that you are an active part of the Hive.

Career and Educational Exploration badge

CAREER & EDUCATIONAL EXPLORATION

Exploring careers and majors early in your college career helps you to focus your studies and graduate sooner by reducing the number of classes taken. Earning this badge signifies that you have explored a major or program of study, investigated career opportunities, completed educational planning, and learned about furthering your education beyond Fullerton College.

Support Services badge image

SUPPORT SERVICES

Fullerton College has many amazing support services including our full-service library, Food Bank, and special student success programs like EOPS, Puente, and Umoja. These services can help you meet your educational and career goals by giving you access to research help, textbook loans, community, housing resources, and so much more. Complete this badge to see what our college has to offer you!

Mindful Growth badge image

MINDFUL GROWTH

Fullerton College’s Mindful Growth Initiative promotes student well-being by introducing students to the practice of mindfulness and encouraging a growth mindset approach to learning. Earning this badge will demonstrate your understanding of and experiences with basic mindfulness and growth mindset concepts that can increase your success in college and beyond.
